Did Adderall used to be prescribed as a weight loss prescription?

Did Adderall used to be prescribed as a weight loss prescription? I heard that the prescription drug Adderall (commonly used to treat ADD/ADHD) used to be prescribed as a weight loss medication. I believe this was done in the early 1990s but they no longer prescribe it for that use. Does anyone have a report or story online from a reliable source explaining what I%26#039;m talking about? I%26#039;m just wondering why it is not used as a weight loss prescription (if it ever, really was). Thanks!

• I don%26#039;t believe that Adderall was even prescribed as a weight loss medication even though that is a side effect. It is an amphetamine however and amphetamines were once prescribed as weight loss medications.

• Not exactly, but amphetamines were prescribed in the distant past for that purpose (instead of 1990%26#039;s, think 1930%26#039;s), and the less-than-scrupulous periodically try for a revival.
• It was presribed in the %26#039;20s as Obetrol to curve hunger, thus causing weight loss. That is what it was originally prescribed for.
