Has anyone noticed if there is a difference in weight loss when you work out in the morning or afternoon? I%26#039;m psyching myself up to get my butt off the couch and get moving, but I need to make room in my schedule for exercise. I have time in the morning, but when I used to work out an hour after lunch I noticed a more rapid weight loss, and seem to tone and build muscle faster.. Is it my imagination, or has anyone else noticed this.

(working out in the evening is out of the question, it makes me hyper and I can%26#039;t sleep at all)

If you notice a significant weight change after a workout, it%26#039;s due to water loss (through sweat or urination) not due to fat loss. Fat loss occurs very slowly and is unnoticable after a single workout.

Having said that, the best time for a fat burning exercise is a morning before breakfast, because your body is depleted of carbohydrates and it%26#039;s going to use fat more readily than if you exercised on a full stomach. An alternative is to do your aerobic workout after some intense weightlifting, because that also depletes your carbs.

  • Your observation is correct. When you work out in the morning, you rev up your metabolism and benefit from that throughout the day. This means you burn the calories in the food you are eating throughout the day as well. When you exercise in the afternoon, you don%26#039;t have the same benefit for burning off your breakfast and lunch calories. Health/Wellness writer and consultant
