(working out in the evening is out of the question, it makes me hyper and I can%26#039;t sleep at all)

If you notice a significant weight change after a workout, it%26#039;s due to water loss (through sweat or urination) not due to fat loss. Fat loss occurs very slowly and is unnoticable after a single workout.Having said that, the best time for a fat burning exercise is a morning before breakfast, because your body is depleted of carbohydrates and it%26#039;s going to use fat more readily than if you exercised on a full stomach. An alternative is to do your aerobic workout after some intense weightlifting, because that also depletes your carbs.

Your observation is correct. When you work out in the morning, you rev up your metabolism and benefit from that throughout the day. This means you burn the calories in the food you are eating throughout the day as well. When you exercise in the afternoon, you don%26#039;t have the same benefit for burning off your breakfast and lunch calories.
