What are the chances of a dietitian writing a prescription for weight loss?

Best Answer

Unlikely. The field of dietetics is moving into evidence based practice, which means working with the client to decide on dietary changes that can be maintained and will fit with the clients lifestyle.

In the past a dietitian would write up a diet plan and give it to the client to follow. But this is not best practice and is hard to maintain, and doesn%26#039;t work well for many reasons. Giving someone a diet may work short term but in the long term it becomes hard to maintain and the client tends to regress to old habits, as they haven%26#039;t really learned to change them.

If you are talking about writing a prescription for a weight loss tablet, then no, this is not what dietitians do. Dietitians work with food, not pharmaceuticals, so writing a prescription would be against the basic principle of a dietitian.
