Which anti anxiety meds cause weight loss?
I recently went to my therapist and he recommended me going on anti-anxiety medication specifically paxil. I am hesitant about going on anti-anxiety medication due to the fact that I do not want to gain weight b/c I am aware that with alot of anxiety medications weight gain is a common side effect due to the fact that it tends to slow your metabolism. Is there any anti-anxiety meds out there that can cause weight loss or have no side effect as far as weight gain is concerned and what would they be?

Weight gain or loss is just a side affect for all of them. It depends on your system which it does.

In my experience, Paxil and Zoloft promote weight gain. The only one I know of - off the top of my head - that helps with weight loss is Welbutrin. It also helps people quit smoking.
If you need anti-anxiety meds, take them. When the anxiety lessens, then kick up your activity level to help keep the weight off. Don%26#039;t let the fear of gaining weight keep you from getting the mental health you may need.

paxil will cause weight gain..the only one i know of that can cause weight loss is prozac but it has a lot of dangerous side effects..i know a lot of doctors that say prozac will make you suicidal even if you weren%26#039;t before

It%26#039;s Wellbutrin, I tried Paxil and Celexa and they caused weight gain.

I took Lexapro for two years and it changed my life. In two ways. First of all I felt better then I have ever felt..secondly I gaines almost 40 pounds. So the HAPPY feeling over time gave way to frustration over the weight gain. I went off of it two months ago and now feel a mess again. I am very, very upset because I NEED the medication, but I am young and refuse to weigh a ton just to feel better. I am going to try to find other ways to deal with my issues.
