There are bigger chances for weight loss when Pilates is added to other cardiovascular exercises or aerobic exercises.
Weight loss is attainable by means of body toning and muscle conditioning. Pilates involves low-impact exercise techniques most of the time floor exercises that contributes to weight loss.

However, for those who belong to the overweight category, it is advisable to focus more on a more fundamental weight loss program for the purpose of decreasing their body mass, which is effectively attained by means of proper nutrition and cardiovascular exercises.
Pilates should be used as an add-on for cardiovascular exercises aimed at improving the body flexibility, posture and strength.

While it is essentially true that Pilates can jumpstart weight loss, you still have to take one step up in your workouts so as to initiate and trigger better burning of calories. With the combination of these exercises and proper nutrition, weight loss in indeed possible with Pilates. http://www.dietstepbystep.com/weight_los... to vote!

Pilates is more of an exercise than a practice. Yoga stimulates the endocrine system and the lymph system, that is part of why you feel so very good after doing a session. Pilates helps tone and strengthen the muscles (yoga does the same, but pilates is more intensive I believe, I%26#039;ve not done a lot of pilates so can%26#039;t really say more than the differences I%26#039;ve noticed myself) and pilates is more like a workout.

Here%26#039;s a great little article on the differences between yoga and pilates: http://healing.about.com/od/pilates/a/yo...

But if you REALLY want to lose weight, exercise alone will not do much for you. You have to change your eating habits. Cut down on the amount of %26quot;junk food%26quot; you eat (food with calories but very little nutrition) and eat more fruits and vegetables, and try introducing whole grains into your diet. Drink a lot more water (especially as you begin to lose weight, it helps you feel fuller, helps stave off hunger pangs, and helps flush toxins that are released as you burn old stored fat).

If you do want to lose weight fast, it might be a good idea to incorporate a high cardio workout, but if you are content to do it slowly as is better for you, yoga and pilates will be a good workout if that is what you are more comfortable with.
Yoga is my exercise of choice. :) to vote!
