Is extreme weight loss typical in very very late stage cancer?
Do cancer victims typically lose an extreme amount of weight as they lose the battle with cancer and approach death?

Yes, because the cancer cells require more energy than the normal body%26#039;s cells. So, that%26#039;s often one of the first signs of cancer that people notice. Doctors will ask, %26quot;Have you lost any weight recently?%26quot; And if you say, %26quot;Yeah, but I%26#039;ve been dieting or exercising,%26quot; Then they won%26#039;t take it any further. If you say, %26quot;Yeah, it%26#039;s weird. I%26#039;m losing weight and not even trying.%26quot; Then they%26#039;ll do tests to see what disease process could be causing this. It%26#039;s not always cancer, of course, but when it is, it%26#039;s scary because you wonder if it%26#039;s at the late stage.

Extreme weight loss can be very typical in the last stages of cancer. There can be many reasons for the weight loss. The person may not be eating due to nausea and vomiting or just poor appetite because of medications. They may not be eating because their mouth is extremely sore from dryness or yeast (thrush) cause from medications or poor immune system. I hope this is just a curiosity question but if not I pray for your peace of mind and body.

I went from 155 pounds to 98 pounds in one month,(normal weight was 110) the first month of chemo...stayed sooooo sick from it could not eat, got the mouth sores and vomiting everytime i moved. BUT am now up to 115 pounds, found that GNC weight gain powder works wonders! I drank it for two weeks and did not mix it like they say to, i only used a scoop and put it in whole milk and it says like three scoops in water. Anyway, after two weeks i gained nine pounds on just it as it was the only thing I liked, Hated boost and ensure is ok, just really expensive! I drink the weight gain powder mix just a couple days a week now,instead of a coffee or a pop and its still putting weight on me, just slower.
My dad died feb of this year, we could not get him to drink anything for the last 7 weeks he was here on earth, and the weight melted off him. After a period of time of not eating anything, it seems the desire to eat is gone, and thats what happened to him. they tubed him to get stuff in him but he kept going downhill and the last two weeks they removed the tube as they said his body was shutting down.
Most cancer patients are thin tho, and once you have seen a few, you can spot them easy, or i can most of the time. If you know someone who is losing weight and can still drink, try the weight gain powder, just dont mix it as thick as they tell you to and give it more often, sometimes its hard for people who are really sick to drink a thick liquid...
you can also use this to make milkshakes if the person can drink that. One of the %26#039;side effects%26#039; i got from the weight gain powder was that i had ulcers and for some reason, it healed them up! Dont know why or how, nor does my oncologist, who ok%26#039;d the powder after i took him the label off the canister....oh it also has more minerals and stuff in it than the ensure/boost stuff has too which might help.
