Vegetarianism and weight loss?

and you to the of meat is it for Votes much are weight
Vegetarianism and weight loss? I am slighty over wieght and have been trying since February to get into my optimum shape. I have joined a gym , going four time a week and have significantly changed my diet - no sweets, junk, chocalate, limited carbs - to the point where I barely eat red meat at all - asides fom the occasional bacon sandwich treat. Would be coming a fullfledged vegetarian help me shift those excess pounds?

It would probably just make you miserable, and eventually you%26#039;d probably fall off the wagon and go back to bad habits. It took you longer than 3 months to get fat, didn%26#039;t it? Be patient, hang in there, and you%26#039;ll reach your goal. Don%26#039;t let pretentious %26quot;vegans%26quot; talk you into their BS lifestyle. Humans are OMNIVORES.

Good luck. 67% 2 Votes

  • I%26#039;ve been veggie for abour 14 years and about 3 years ago I was rather overweight (liked the choccies too much!). I went on a calorie controlled diet and lost 3 stone. My husband (a meat eater) also went on the diet and lost 2 stone. Being veggie doesn%26#039;t help you to loose weight. It%26#039;s a lifestlye thing and can be difficult when you first start. If you want to shift weight I%26#039;ve always found that counting calories helps or sticking to a good diet (not some of the crazy/useless things around these days). Just make sure you get enough of the good things. 0% 0 Votes
  • If you are already eating healthily and not eating too much meat in any case there%26#039;s no point in completely cutting out meat as a dietary aid. There%26#039;s no point in vegetarianism unless it%26#039;s a dietary requirement for some reason, or a conscious life choice. It%26#039;s apparently neither for you.
And if you enjoy the occasional bacon sarnie, you ain%26#039;t gonna enjoy being a veggie anyway. The dreaded smell of bacon is the reason my mate Alan, vegetarian for years and a chef specialising in veggie meals, succumbed to the smell of some frying bacon wafting through the kitchen one day.... 0% 0 Votes
  • I became a vegetarian and lost a vast amount of weight but it didn%26#039;t really agree with my body- I became very weak and my hair started falling out. You do need to take loads of supplements. 0% 0 Votes
  • I don%26#039;t think so. I have been a vegetatrian for nearly a year now. (For other reasons) and haven%26#039;t noticed any weight loss. I guess it depends what you replace the meat with, but if you%26#039;re hardly eating any fatty meat any way, I honestly don%26#039;t think it%26#039;d make much difference. Keep going as you%26#039;re going. Don%26#039;t try and lose it all to quickly.

  • it is harder to get large amount of calories from vegetables than it is to get the calories from protein (meat).

there are a lot of vegetarian dishes that are also very fattening. think about: french fries, falafel. obvious things. but also less obvious like beans, cheeses, eggs, milk (mayo and kethup aswell). even some fruits like grapes, yellow kiwi%26#039;s and honey-melons and watermelons contain high amounts of carbyhydrates and are thus bad for weightloss.

also from a neutritional point of view, eating little meat (bout once a week) is healthier than eating no meat at all.

the best is just to stick to healy calory low foods. and excersise. this doesnt have to be running on a tredmill, it can just be a brisk hours walk 3-4 times a week.

p.s. switching from never going to the gym to going 4 times a week. can give yo ua high chance of injuring yourself (stressing tendons and musles to much) slow build up in intensity is much safer.

in short: avoid protein rich foods, sugar rich foods and fatrich foods. and keep moving. (dont over do the moving especially intensive sports like jogging are bad for you if you dont build up slowly) 0% 0 Votes
  • as long as you cut out all fats and sugars and avoid packaged foods you should be ok dont forget you may need a suppliment of vit b such as mamite if you totaly give up meat good luck with it 0% 0 Votes
  • I%26#039;ve thought about the same thing. I%26#039;m not an expert but my sister is a vegan which is much more extreme then being a vegetarian. I guess you can say I have some idea of what I%26#039;m talking about. I honestly don%26#039;t think cutting meat from your diet is a good choice. Instead I think you may want to try cutting down on carbs. Carbs are responsible for most of the weight problem. Eat only whole grain bread or wheat and only for breakfast and lunch. Small portions and healthy snacking between meals is a great way to keep your metabolism alive and kicking. 0% 0 Votes
  • its not about how many vegetables you eat, its about how much fat you intake. also, muscle ways 4 times more than fat, so don%26#039;t be suprised if you put weight on by going to the gym that often. becoming a vegan will make you lose weight, but too quickly and too much of it!
