Does the Peoples Republic of China deserve to host the summer Olympic games this year (or any other)?
Think of the PRC%26#039;s brutal repression of Tibet, the abuses they show their own people, and their constant threat to the good folks in Taiwan.

  • No, they don%26#039;t.

Edit: Great...so Hitler go to do it so that%26#039;s justifies China? Shouldn%26#039;t we learn from history? Wow.
  • No, they don%26#039;t.

I was totally surprised when they were picked!
  • no I dont think so......
  • Keep this thought in mind: sometimes the shortest route between two points is NOT a straight line.

We all want China to change, right? Well, heavy-handed tactics didn%26#039;t work with Cuba, and they%26#039;re not going to work with an infinitely more powerful country like China. We need a different approach.

Protesting is counter productive. Every interaction China has with the free, outside world is another nail in the coffin of Communism. Just as Communism was doomed to failure once Eastern Europeans saw how the West really lived, China will feel tremendous pressure for democratization and respect for human rights because of the Olympics.

So, as you can see, protesting the Olympics is absolute stupidity.

First of all, the Olympics are to promote the spirit of friendly athletic competition. Politics should play absolutely no part. The Olympics are about athletes, not political ideologies...period!

Secondly, the people suggesting we boycott the Olympics should be forced to take a course in rational thought. Did it ever occur to these illogical people that, had the U.S. boycotted the Olympic games in Nazi Germany, african-American Jesse Owens wouldn%26#039;t have won four gold medals and mightily embarrassed Hitler?

China doesn%26#039;t realize it, but the Olypics are the beginning of the end for their heavy-handed Communist system. We certainly can%26#039;t expect them to adopt a democratic form of government in the near future, because too much of the country is still terribly backwards, and the country would collapse without a strong hand guiding the government.

However, the seeds of human rights will be sown by interaction with athletes from other nations. Keep in mind that the Afghan and Iraqi athletes will participate, and as many of them have said, will hold their heads high and carry their flag with pride because now they are among the legitimate democracies of the world.

They know they face many problems, but they are confident it%26#039;s better than Communism.
  • No they still have a long way to go with human rights. Shame on them, Shame Shame Shame, Shame on China.
  • well stating it that way does any country deserve to do it in canada they club seals, in america they attack countries for oil, Britain and France have shown severe right wing and fascist tendencies, Russia is owned by the mob, India and Pakistan would probably call it an outrage if either held it due to Kashmir, Germany probably doesn%26#039;t want it, Turkey prosecutes Kurds, Japan visits a shrine full of war criminals, Italians seem to have something against their own countrymen, Greece held it last year and almost failed to finish it in time and most other countries would probably have diffrent things that would cause similar outrage in other areas as well so the question is does anyone deserve it?
