A peice of fine china, like a Lenox brand candy dish, may be a good gift, which is not too expensive, but something they may appreciate and they will remember you by, even after you leave. That is what I would bring. You may even find something in your local department store, in the home section that would hopefully be appreciated. Tough call, but it sounds like you are on the right track. If you can afford much go for the box of cookies, everyone loves that.
