Whichever country pays the FIFA executives the most money is awarded the world cup. FIFA goes through this whole %26quot;selection process%26quot; where they %26quot;vote%26quot; for the countries that have put in bids, but in reality, who ever puts more money in fifa%26#039;s wallet and can generate more money from a world cup gets chosen. hope that helps.

They try to make it appear more open - basically FIFA decide on a continent to host it (it used to be just Europe and South America alternately, but now Asia and Africa have been included) and then countries bid (ie put together a business plan) for the %26quot;honour%26quot;. But politics and money play a big part actually - the next one was always going to be in South Africa just as the States were always going to host theirs back in whenever it was.
