Why does bluehost have more then one hosting company?

Why does bluehost have more then one hosting company? bluehost is known to be one of the best hosting sites out their recently two hostmania and fastdomain has been competing recently i have learned that they are the same company as bluehost. and their may be more companies that bluehost owns. hostmania is the same deal as bluehost just a less price. why does bluehost on more then one site that competes with them and give out better priceses then what they give? i dont know much about business but this sounds weird.
